What is Artificial Intelligence as a leadership discipline?
Artificial Intelligence, in the Leadership Intelligence Stack, is the capacity to work with, interrogate and govern AI systems and their outputs. It is not about knowing which model to use. It is about understanding the architecture, the geopolitical landscape and the governance requirements well enough to make the decisions that determine what your organisation builds, how exposed it is to sovereign risk, and what redundancy its AI infrastructure requires.
Why does this belong to the executive and not the technology team?
The technology team can tell you what the systems can do. They cannot decide what the organisation should depend on. In an environment where a government directive can disable the models an organisation relies on with hours of notice and no transition period, unnamed risks are not theoretical. They are operational. The leader who cannot answer where their AI capability physically runs, under whose jurisdiction, and with what redundancy is not behind on AI adoption. They are exposed to risks they have not yet named.
What does the US-led and China-led bifurcation mean for leaders?
The global AI landscape is dividing into two ecosystems with different models, different infrastructure, different regulatory regimes and different sovereign exposures. Every enterprise AI decision now carries a position in that landscape, whether the leader has chosen it deliberately or inherited it by default. Leaders who operate across Asia Pacific navigate both ecosystems at once, which is why the APAC operating position confers a structural advantage in this discipline: the bifurcation is not an abstraction there. It is Tuesday.
